Stores Dropping Plus Size Clothing For Women
A little known fact outside the clothing industry is that in the U.S., 56% of women wear clothing sizes 14 and up.
An odd fact is that even with more than half of the population needing larger sizes, it's now becoming harder and harder to find plus size clothing for women..
Some of the major department stores such as Bloomingdales and clothing manufacturers such as Ann Taylor have dropped several plus size lines, however they say it's simply being done because demand is lower.
A recent study shows sales of plus-size clothing for women fell 8% in the last year, compared to a 2% drop in standard sizes.
Those numbers don't cut it for many women though, says a spokeswoman "Women have enough to worry about."
Alicia Appleton of Jessica London Clothing was quoted as saying, "It's moreso an emotional rollercoaster, because women feel like, you know, 'I'm not accepted.'"
For that reason, Apleton began work as a fashion merchandiser for a plus-size womens clothing line, and she hopes in the future, the clothing market will reflect the true size of most American women.
That might well happen in the near future however, as some of the major retailers such as Forever 21 and Target have been quietly testing out plus-size lines for women.
